Movies are made of them. Plots revolve around them. Defining moments. We all have them; those instances where we chose to do or not do something, that has made all the difference in where we ended up—turning points. We have big ones and small ones. Some of my more impactful ones include: 1. Breaking my arm while practicing for cheerleading tryouts summer before my freshman year in high school. Even though I didn’t know it, God knew I wasn’t cheerleader material, and that I would be way better suited to the school’s Dance Team. By the time dance team tryouts were held in the spring, my arm was healed and I made the team. The group of twenty girls devoted to high kicks, precision, rhythms and smiles was integral to my high school memories and relationships. 2. Getting turned down by my top pick college, waitlisted by my second choice, and thus, deciding to attend my third choice, Miami University. Miami not only become a beautiful, vibrant, exhilarating home to me during my four years of college, but I am now married to a Miami professor living in the college town. Those rejects from schools I thought I wanted to attend weren’t truly “nos”, but God guiding me to my future destiny. 3. While living in South Florida, saying on the phone to my sweet guy friend (translation future husband), who was complaining of the extreme cold in Minneapolis, “Why don’t you come visit me? The weather is beautiful here.” God used that simple visit between two college friends to cultivate true love and a meaningful marriage rooted in trust, friendship and in Him. Although in the heat of all of these moments I had no idea what God was up to, it’s amazing to look back and see His almighty handiwork in the details of my life.
